Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Spring Term 2015

P.E. is on Mondays and Fridays for 2R and Mondays and Tuesdays for 2G so please remember to bring tracksuit bottoms or shorts and a T. shirt on MONDAY.

Book bags are changed on a Thursday.

2R spellings and x tables tests are on Thursday and 2G spelling tests are on Fridays. Big Maths tests are every Wednesday.

The introduction of 'Big Maths' is already raising standards in Mathematics. Please help your child with any of the test papers which are sent home. One  test is  a 'timed' test so children have to 'know' number bonds with no thinking time! Please help your child to memorise these number facts (addition and multiplication).  Our Maths topics this half term are 'Money' and 'Weighing'. Please let your child help you with counting coins when you go shopping - making amounts to £1. counting in 2p's, 5p's and 10p's and working out 'change'. Please include your child in any cooking activities at home that require weighing. This half-term we are concentrating on learning our 5 times table.

We have started a new Literacy scheme called 'Read, Write, Inc'. The children's phonic skills are regularly assessed and they are grouped according to their abilities. They will usually be taught in small groups and they might be with a teacher who is not their class teacher. These groups change regularly as the children progress within the scheme.

We have been learning all about light sources. Please help your child by pointing out any sources of light on the way to school - traffic lights, shop lights, sunlight, moon (if still in sky).

We will be visiting 'Chapter' and the 'Library' this half term. We will be finding out more about the uses of these public buildings and their history.

Many thanks,
Mrs Chick and Miss Griffiths
