Severn Reception Newsletter
Welcome to the summer term. We have had an exciting time in reception so far.
As the children continue with their Foundation phase journey there will be many more opportunities afforded for language development through activities that are well matched to the children’s developing interests and abilities. Please support your child in this very important stage of their development.
They will be following a literacy programme called:- “Read, Write, Inc.” which is a fun and meaningful way for children to learn to read and write.
The children will be introduced to “Little Big Maths” as part of the School’s implementation of “Big Maths” This is a systematic and structured programme that follows an agreed sequence of progression to becoming numerate.
Our focus for the Summer term is “Splish, Spash, Splosh”. The stimulus begins with a trip to Grean Meadow Farm, where the children will experience the daily life on a farm. They will have the opportunity to experience first hand the animals being fed, milked and using the milk to make butter.
Following this we will be developing our focus on water. the chidren will be learning all about the uses of water and the importance of water for life and growth. Our focus will culminate with a trip to the beach.
Every week we will send home the class bear with one of the children so that they can then share with the rest of the class what they have been doing at the weekend. This will encourage speech and language development as well as developing confidence. We would like you to take photographs and to also write down a little of what your child and “Teddy” have been doing, This will be then put into a class book so that the children can share and revisit their experiences.
Thank you to all those parents who pay the contribution of £1 towards our snack and cooking activities- the children get such a lot of fun out of all the extra activities we are able to offer, as well as all the additional resources that we are able to buy.
Mrs Murphy and Mrs Gumbleton are more than happy to discuss any questions or concerns that you may have.
